While each organization will continue to award its own scholarships, they will join forces to promote all equine scholarships in an effort to reach more individuals and show a unified effort to promote Kentucky.

The Kentucky Equine Education Project Scholarship program will provide scholarships to students pursuing a career in the horse industry who demonstrate financial need, academic success and show a commitment to Kentucky's Horse Industry. A committee of the KEEP Board will select the winners.

The Kentucky Horse Council annually awards six scholarships to students who have demonstrated academic success, equine industry involvement and community service. Applications are judged by a panel of both Kentucky Horse Council board members and individuals from the community and from universities.

The Race for Education scholarship program is open only to students 24 years of age or younger. There are currently three main scholarships offered and students may apply for only one type of scholarship.

The Horsemen's Scholarship is available to children of racetrack, backside and horse farm employees. This includes but is not limited to foremen, grooms, hot walkers, assistant trainers, riders, and maintenance and office workers.

The Thoroughbred Scholarship is available to students pursuing an equine-related degree, such as pre-veterinary medicine (equine only), agricultural science with equine focus, racetrack management, or equine business management.

The National Turf Writers Association/Youbet Journalism Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate journalism students at any accredited university in the United States.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the equine industry to once again join forces for the greater good," said Elisabeth Collier, Executive Vice President of Race for Education. "Working together each organization will have a wider audience reach and inform more individuals about each of their scholarship programs.

"While each organization will maintain its scholarship and award those individually, the Race for Education Office will facilitate all the programs. The clinics will be held at Windmill Junction Farm in Claypool, Indiana, rain or shine. There is a 10-rider limit for both clinics, so preregistration is required. All auditors are welcome.

The first clinic will be a two-day event focusing on colt starting, problem solving, and horsemanship on February 24 and 25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Blacks will lead participants in starting their own young horses under saddle and in improving their communication and performance with their riding horses.

The cost for the February clinic is $230 to ride all weekend and $125 to ride for one day. Auditors are welcome for $50 for the weekend or $30 per day. The method of teaching and training they employ-the language of the horse-is universal and effective throughout the spectrum of equestrian sport. Linda's undaunted patience and thoroughness with both horse and rider and Bill's attention to detail attract students from all disciplines to their clinics. The Blacks are American Ranch Horse Association judges and teach clinics and lessons year-round.

The Indiana Ranch Horse Association is a charter organization of the American Ranch Horse Association. Microscopically fine oil droplets penetrate to combine with the fibers and stay there. This controlled lubrication lets Lexol nourish and revitalize while avoiding seepage into adjacent materials. The purposeless emails should all be gone.

Now we have to work twice as hard to both promote our site and get the word out about our great selection and low prices.

The email list was a valuable tool that will be sorely missed.

I will also interject that there was no virus.

How do we know that? First of all it is stastically impossible that with all those bogus emails bouncing around the internet that they wouldn't have went to an unprotected machine and introduced new email addresses into the loop. Every email address "abused" was from our own database.

Secondly - no one reported any activity or warnings from their anti-virus software. A few reported that their spyware detectors gave warnings, but this was actually due to the origins of the email replies - many people use email software that adds tracking cookies to their outgoing mail. It was these tracking cookies from members of the list, not anything from the list itself, that caused the warnings.

All that being said. It happened and we are out of the bulk email business at this time.

Over the next few months we will be shifting our marketing focus to nice, safe, regional and national magazine ads.

Sales will only be announced in this blog and on the front page of the web site.

Hopefully, in the coming months you will invite us to serve your horse supply needs and allow us to regain any trust that this unfortunate situation may have damged.

Hopefully that is the end of it...

The following is the chat transcript from my talk with our hosting company - unedited, typos and all.

Boma Hartford: Let me check your ticket sir
wes forsythe: the ticket is actually out of date now. now i need to know if something else can be disabled to stop what is happening
Boma Hartford: You can set the mailing list to not to accept any emails other than moderator sir
Boma Hartford: Let me check your mailing list now
wes forsythe: that is how it was set up. now we have delted the mailing list and turned off the mail service to the kyhorse.net account
wes forsythe: people are claiming that they are still getting the emails
wes forsythe: we've built the list for two years...no one has ever been able to reply to it before. nothing was changed but one got through then it accepted all the replies
wes forsythe: i need to make sure there is no way that the mailing list is buried somewhere in the mx records and could still be sending emails
Boma Hartford: Ah I see, Let me check it sir please hold
Boma Hartford: I am not seeing any mailing list on kyhorse.com
Boma Hartford: Can you tell me the mailing list address sir
wes forsythe: it was on kyhorse.net. it was called update@kyhorse.net and i just told you i deleted it
Boma Hartford: You delete the domain also ?
wes forsythe: no..left the domain service up...just turned off the email service
Boma Hartford: I don't see any mail service for kyhorse.net
Boma Hartford: ah yes let me check
wes forsythe: i just need to know that is technically impossible for someone now to reply to update@kyhorse.com and it go to the 6000 emails that were on the list
Boma Hartford: Yes sir it is impossible to do that because your MX address has propagated also. So I can only guess that who ever send the email did it before you delete the email
Boma Hartford: May I know the content of the email sir
wes forsythe: the original email was a sales flier. it contained our web address, physical address, and even our phone number so it was 100% above board. one guy replied to it to complain he was having trouble getting off the list (the removal process is supposed to be automatic of course) then people replied to him...then others replied to them
wes forsythe: i'm practically getting death threats because of it
wes forsythe: i deleted the list at 9am eastern and turned off the mail service at noon....and we are still getting reports of list activity
wes forsythe: they have slowed down considerably..but it still has me worried
wes forsythe: i'm thinking the software was corrupted somehow (would explain both the problems with his and apparently others getting removed and the list suddenly losing its moderator only status
Boma Hartford: Well sir I think it need time to propagate when you change the MX setting.
Boma Hartford: Perhaps the mailing list was corrupted however I can't help you check it since it has been deleted off your Mail Service
wes forsythe: now i just got one of them in my kyhorse.com mailbox. now i think the replys to update are somehow being forwarded by the mail server to my kyhose.com account
wes forsythe: my webmaster@kyhorse.com email address does not appear in the recipient field...but update@kyhorse.net does. so even after 12 hours somehow the list is still forwarding
Boma Hartford: what does the email says sir ?
wes forsythe: just a woman saying I am getting blind copied as well. I don't know how to stop it. Nancy
wes forsythe: then the orinal replies to the message
wes forsythe: original
wes forsythe: would it be possible for you to further "block" any email activity to do with kyhorse.net?
Boma Hartford: sure let me check with our admin
Boma Hartford: Ah there was a lot of queue message on your kyhorse.net That was the cause of the problem
Boma Hartford: Our admin have delete it
Boma Hartford: So you don't have to worry anymore
wes forsythe: gosh i hope not...thanks.
wes forsythe: well you might want to log this down in case anyone complains to you that we were "spamming" them
Boma Hartford: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Boma Hartford: Yes sir we always keep the log of our chat
wes forsythe: thanks again

Here is what we think happened....

Last night a disgruntled email recipient replied to our KyHorse.com Update email newsletter and his reply went out list wide.

Our newsletter was always set up so that no one other than myself, the webmaster, could post to it - to prevent just this kind of thing from happening. In the past this feature has worked - obviously, since we have been doing the email newsletters for two years and it has never happened before.

Some glitch, whether caused by a server "upgrade" or act of God, allowed his email to go out to everyone (over 6000 names). Then many of these people replied, and of course those replies went out to everyone also. Then people replied to the replies and so on.

This morning we took the "smart bomb" step of deleting the list from our mail server at about 9am. There were apparently a few emails still in the pipe at that time, but it did slow the spread of the bogus emails.

At noon today we went for the "nuclear option". We literally turned off the mail service to kyhorse.net (our mail server that we use to send out our flyers). Althought there may still be some straggler emails floating around cyberspace - we are pretty sure that this act killed the emails once and for all.

Now if someone replies to the email, anyone specifically listed in the recipient line will get a copy, but the copy that goes to the Update mailing list should do nothing other than to bounce back to them.

While the vast majority of emails and phone calls directed to us have been supportful (if aggravated), many of them were from quite irate people accusing us of everything from stealing a particular company's mailing list (wow...what are the chances of a person in the horse industry appearing on two horse supply mailing lists) to purposely sponsoring what has been happening.

Because of this, however, we did find that some people had tried previous, multiple attempts to get off of our list unsuccessfully. We sincerely apologize doubly to those people.

At this time our mailing list is discontinued and no further emails will go out until we think we have some sort of added failsafe to cover these problems.

Wes

Mailing List Problem

We are soooooooooooooo sorry about the bug in our mailing list tonight. Don't worry - nothing malicious is going on.

Our list is (supposed to be) set up so that only I, the webmaster, can post to it. Replies to it are supposed to just evaporate into cyberspace.

For some reason, tonight someone replied to it to request to be removed from the list (instead of contacting me directly) and his email apparently went out nationwide. To add insult to injury some other nice folks replied to him and apparently some of those emails also went all over the place.

This is not supposed to happen and we know it is not acceptable to our customers anymore than it is to us.

We have contacted our hosting support and reported the problem. We've had it on the shelf for years but somehow it kept getting missed. Probably because the label looks too much like Mane n' Tail Conditioner, and no one noticed. This generosity also included donations to the USEF Hurricane Equine Relief Fund, which received a total of just over $283,000, all of which has been sent to relief organizations.

The donations came in the form of a single dollar from young children, small collections made by 4-H clubs and checks for thousands from individuals and foundations. Some came with letters asking that the donations be made in memory of a beloved human friend or horse, others with drawings by children and many with words of encouragement for the overall effort.

The USEF has distributed all of the funds to those agencies and organizations on the front lines of the assistance effort in the Gulf area. These organizations either played a vital role in the rescue of horses and ponies in the immediate aftermath of the hurricanes, or were created specifically to assist in the longer-term care of the equine victims.

The USEF Hurricane Equine Relief Fund has been disbursed as follows:

The United States Army/Blue Devils Horse Platoon – $8,200
Funds were for the support of the U.S Army's "Operation Pegasus" which deployed volunteer Army and Army Reserve personnel to spearhead equine rescue and assistance efforts in Mississippi in cooperation with the Mississippi State Veterinarian's office.

Habitat for Horses/Lone Star Equine Rescue - $25,000
This Texas organization assisted the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Science in the rescue of horses. This organization also supplied food for horses and ponies in the area after the hurricane and cared for others in their Texas facility.

Louisiana State University Foundation/Equine Studies Program - $15,000
The LSU School of Veterinary Science managed the rescue and care of thousands of animal victims including hundreds of horses. It tirelessly cared for them at the evacuation facility at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center. The LSU Equine Studies vets and students were the backbone of the rescue teams that braved the deplorable conditions to rescue horses and ponies.

Mississippi Animal Disaster Relief Fund - $125,900
This fund was established by the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association, Inc., to provide support to animals in the state's hard hit Gulf region. The USEF funds have been specifically earmarked for equine relief.

Louisiana Veterinary Medical Assoc. Equine Committee Foundation - $108,900
As in Mississippi, this foundation will continue to support the needs of afflicted equines in the hard hit regions of Louisiana.

"We determined that the best use of funds was to get them to those agencies which were interacting directly in the effort. They had the widest mandate to provide appropriate assistance and understand the specific needs in those areas," said Maria Partlow, USEF Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communication. "We learned from this experience that the USEF can play an important role in disaster preparedness and response. We are discussing this with other national organizations with a goal of developing a protocol for our role, and that of other large breed organizations, in supporting local officials in an emergency situation."

Expanded Whip Selection and Draft Horse Headstalls

When we started the web site we had no idea of the demand for draft horse products. We are going to put in a big effort over the coming year to add more "big and tall" tack. I am very pleased that I found your site and that my dollars are staying in the USA.

Thanks for offering these products online for those of us who may not have great tack shops near by!

Carol Saviak, Florida

New: Fly Wisks & Price Lowered On Doggin' Bats

Once again we have added an item because of customer requests.

We have had numerous requests for Fly Wisks. The scholarship will be administered by The Race For Education.

Ashado was recently sold at Keeneland for a record $9 million. The former owners agreed to donate a certain percentage of the proceeds from her sale to Thoroughbred Charities of America, with the stipulation that the scholarship money would come from that donation.

The Ashado Scholarship will have the same eligibility requirements as The Race For Education's Thoroughbred Scholarship, in that the student must be majoring in an equine-related subject, including veterinary medicine.

"The Ashado Scholarship is intended to enable its recipient to achieve the high level of success Ashado demonstrated since she first set foot on a racetrack," said Paul Saylor. "We hope that Ashado's unique determination and character will serve as a catalyst for achievement by the scholarship's beneficiary."

Ashado, by Saint Ballado out of Goulash, won 12 of her 21 starts, including seven Grade I races. She is the only horse to win the Kentucky Oaks (GI) and Breeders' Cup Distaff (GI) in the same year. Ashado received the Eclipse Award as Champion Three Year Old Filly in 2004 and is the leading contender for 2005 Champion Older Mare. Her earnings of nearly $4 million place her second on the all-time earnings list for female racehorses.

The Ashado Scholarship recipient will be chosen from female Thoroughbred Scholarship applicants. Applications for both the Thoroughbred and Horsemen's Scholarships can be found at www.racingscholarships.com. Completed applications are due February 28, 2006. The Ashado Scholarship recipient will be introduced on Kentucky Oaks day at Churchill Downs.

The Race For Education is a national education scholarship foundation funded by various parties related to, or with an interest in the Thoroughbred racing industry. In its first three years in operation, The Race For Education has awarded more than $694,000 to students from 17 states.

Comment About Our Nearly Famous Automated Order Response

Howdy,

Your e-mail was delightful.....we need more humor and lightheartedness in the world today.

Thank You and Happy Holidays

Linda Taliaferro

Kentucky Horse Park to host 2010 World Equestrian Games

For the first time, the World Equestrian Games (WEG) will be held outside of Europe in 2010, when the games come to the United States. Under the leadership of Governor Ernie Fletcher and his administration, Kentucky’s bid to host the games at the Kentucky Horse Park came through victorious in an announcement made half-way around the world in Bahrain.

The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), which is the international governing body for non-racing equestrian sports, made the decision that the games will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, the Horse Capital of the World.

As the games are expected to have a $100-million economic impact on the state of Kentucky, Governor Ernie Fletcher, whose campaign platform included promises to strengthen and improve the state’s equine industry, was understandably all smiles as he made the announcement to an expectant and enthusiastic crowd of industry leaders gathered at the Kentucky Horse Park. He observed, “This will be an unprecedented opportunity for our Commonwealth to showcase itself to the world. It is both fitting and proper that Kentucky should serve as the host for this prestigious series of events.” He continued, “We are known as the epicenter of the equestrian world and we have a deep appreciation for all things having to do with the horse. We also have a rich history in the equestrian arena that sets us apart from virtually every other region in the world. I know that we will stage a very successful series of competitions and I know that the world will gain a new appreciation for the beauty of our state and the hospitality of our citizens.”

John Nicholson, Executive Director of the Kentucky Horse Park, now has the honor and responsibility of hosting and shouldering the WEG. “This will be the first time that the World Equestrian Games will be staged at a single venue. That’s because there isn’t another site in the world that has the facilities that are available at the Kentucky Horse Park. When all was said and done, I believe that Kentucky’s heritage as the Horse Capital of the World, combined with the world-class facilities at the park were what won the games for our state. It will be the park’s privilege and distinction to represent the United States to the world via the games.”

Reporting via telephone from Bahrain, Nicholson expressed his excitement, talked about the bid process and answered questions from the media.

The WEG are comprised of the world championships for seven equestrian sports: show jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, endurance, vaulting and reining. This feed was distributed between Oct. 10 and 25, 2005, to five Co-op feed outlets in East Tennessee and one store in northeastern South Carolina.

Laboratory testing has found a potentially harmful level of monensin sodium (Rumensin) in a bag from lot 4287593638, which has been implicated in equine deaths. Monsensin sodium, a drug compound approved for use in some livestock species, can be fatal if fed to horses. Customers who have purchased 10% Grain Mix with the specified lot numbers should not continue to store or use this product and are asked to return the feed to their dealer for replacement. Westfall will make history as she meets well-known cowboys Craig Cameron, Van Hargis, and Martin Black to start, ride, and compete on previously untouched horses in Murfreesboro, Tenn., February 25-26, 2006.

Westfall, from Mt. Gilead, Ohio, is no stranger to the competition arena - or to being the mysterious challenger. She's known for her "mystery-rider" routine at horse shows across the U.S. Dressed in a dark trenchcoat, hat and bandana to cover her face, Westfall has asked her horse to perform sliding stops and fast spins without reins and with musical accompaniment. Westfall is excited to be the mystery contestant, the first woman in the event, and the youngest trainer in the ring at this year's Road to the Horse.

"I was so excited when I was selected, but I wasn't allowed to tell anyone!" Westfall says. "I have won at big events, but I consider the chance to compete at Road to the Horse to be an even bigger opportunity."

Each year, Road to the Horse fans pack into the Tennessee Miller Coliseum to watch and learn horse-training secrets from top pros. The event sells out annually and has been featured on RFD-TV and in magazines such as "Horse & Rider," "Trail Rider," "Horsetrader" and many more. Bland says she chose Westfall from a pool of more than 15 clinicians. Stellar horsemanship and a drive to teach and entertain made her the perfect fourth contestant.

"Road to the Horse brings together the 'creme de la creme' of clinicians the horse industry has to offer," Bland says. "And this year it just so happened that one of those clinicians was a woman. Making history and being the first woman invited to Road to the Horse may carry some challenges that the gentleman will not encounter. Our hats are off to Stacy for embracing this opportunity and meeting the challenge. In turn, she will single-handily represent women all over the world in her first challenge."
Westfall says she's excited and honored to be in ranks with Cameron, Hargis and Black. "I'm curious to see how I'm received," she says. "There's the surprise that the fourth person is a woman and a newcomer to the clinic scene."

Third Annual Southern Horse Festival Returns to Raleigh

From December 2-4, The North Carolina Horse Council will host the area's premier equine event, The Southern Horse Festival. From the hoof-stomping tracks of some of today's hottest musical artists to the center-ring drama of America's top teenage riders to the adrenaline-filled sport of show jumping, Animal Planet's equestrian roundup gallops into living rooms beginning January 2006.

This January, unplug and saddle up with TRAIL MIX (premieres Sunday, January 29, 8-10 PM ET/PT). Hosted by Broadway sensation Linda Eder, the two- hour special visits with music's hottest stars -- Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas, country sweetheart LeAnn Rimes, Aerosmith rocker Joe Perry, to name a few -- to get an inside look at the inspirational bond they share with their horses. In February, HORSE POWER: ROAD TO THE MACLAY (six-part series premieres Wednesday, February 1, 8-9 PM ET/PT) rounds up the country's top junior riders for an inside look at the high-stakes, high-drama competition of the horse show circuit. Go behind the scenes as teenage riders struggle to keep pace in a grueling, pressurized season, along with school and social life, while competing for an elusive bid to the Maclay Medal Finals. Can they handle the pressure and sacrifices it will take to qualify? And then in March, experience the thrill and danger of Olympic-level show jumping when ANIMAL PLANET SPORTHORSE CUP (premieres Monday, March 6, 8-9 PM ET/PT) showcases some of the world's top riders in competition.

Animal Planet and horses. Three new shows. Giddyup!

TRAIL MIX World Premiere: Sunday, January 29, 8-10 PM (ET/PT) From record labels to horse stables, TRAIL MIX highlights the special bond that some of today's top musicians have with horses. From rock stars to pop singers to opera virtuosos, celebrated artists like country sensation LeAnn Rimes, Grammy- winning singer Mary Chapin Carpenter, Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas, Aerosmith's Joe Perry and renowned tenor Ronan Tynan talk about their passion, explain how horses rejuvenate their art and share their most compelling stories about the horses they have known, to reveal surprising details about their own personal lives. Each interview culminates in a one-of-a-kind music video featuring a montage of exclusive footage and outtakes of the singers and their horses.

HORSE POWER: ROAD TO THE MACLAY World Premiere: Six-part series premieres Wednesday, February 1, 8-9 PM (ET/PT) Welcome to the inside world of junior riders, where America's top teenage riders, their trainers, their horses and their families engage in the daily drama of the high-powered horse show circuit. These teens are the best of the best -- the Michelle Kwans of the riding world -- and they're out to prove who's number one. As the horses and riders compete for the Maclay Medal Finals, one of the biggest junior equestrian competitions of the year, we explore what it takes to make it both in high school and in the ring, the pressure and sacrifices of the riders' families, the athleticism and bravery of the horses, the dedication and ambition of the coaches, and above all, the emotional bond between horse and rider. From farm girls to Park Avenue princesses, untrained ponies to $500,000 champion horses, follow the drama as they compete with each other and themselves for the ultimate junior title.

ANIMAL PLANET SPORTHORSE CUP World Premiere: Monday, March 6, 8-9 PM (ET/PT) Discover the thrill and danger of Olympic level show jumping up close and personal at the ANIMAL PLANET SPORTHORSE CUP, a premiere event in equestrian competitions. As he lay the dog on the table, the doctor pulled out his stethoscope, placing the receptor on the dog's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm sorry, but your dog has passed away."

"What?" screamed the man. "How can you tell? You haven't done any testing on him or anything. I want another opinion!"

With that, the vet turned and left the room. In a few moments, he returned with a Labrador Retriever. The Retriever went right to work, checking the poor dead dog out thoroughly with his nose. After a considerable amount of sniffing, the Retriever sadly shook his head and said, "Bark" (meaning "dead as a doornail").

The veterinarian then took the Labrador out and returned in a few moments with a cat, who also carefully sniffed out the poor dog on the table. As had his predecessors, the cat sadly shook his head and said, "Meow" (meaning "he's history"). He then jumped off the table and ran out of the room.

The veterinarian handed the man a bill for $600. The dog's owner went berserk. "$600! Just to tell me my dog is dead? This is outrageous!"

The vet shook his head sadly and explained. "If you had taken my word for it, the charge would have been $50, but you wanted the LAB work and the CAT Scan."

Be Prepared with Equimax

More than 50% of horses sampled in the U.S. have been infected with tapeworms which can cause life-threatening incidents of colic that are not detected until it is too late.

Don't take chances - Use Equimax.

It's the only combination dewormer approved by the FDA to safely and effectively treat foals, pregnant and lactating mares and breeding stallions, all in a single dose.

Glycerine

Today's post is a quickie.

We are now offering Glycerine in both the Plain (99%) and Peppermint Mixture formulas. We've had several people ask for it and we were ordering it in as needed.

Glycerine is a versatile, clear, colorless, hygroscopic liquid that functions as a humectant, preservative and lubricant. Glycerine is often used as a topical sweating agent in horses. It is indicated for use in poultices to remove fluids from inflamed and swollen areas.

Often used to dilute teat dip or other dermatologicals. Helps prevent drying and retains moisture on the skin. For those of you not on the list we highlighted our Name Plate Harness Belts.

Every year, as Christmas approaches we have a huge run on our belts. Don't get me wrong - we love being busy before Christmas - it pays the bills. We just don't want to be working nights.

But it is sooooo much easier on us if you order ahead of time. That way we can "pool" the production of the belts to one or two days a week allowing us to concentrate on doing a good job, instead of spending our time digging through the hides to make one or two.

We take a lot of pride in our belts. We feel they are fairly unique (we can usually tell ours from the competition's) and have a look and feel that is unsurpassed in the price range. Also we happen to know that most places will NOT exchange them if you order them wrong. We know how easy it is to mis-size a belt (especially now that the yunguns are wearing their pants around their knees). Our belts may be returned for an size exchange at NO EXTRA CHARGE.

SUCCEED in Partnership with Race Horse Adoption Program

Freedom Health recently reached an agreement with New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program. A veterinarian with Hagyard Equine Medical in Lexington suggested SUCCEED and donated a carton of the product. "We've been running our program for over 13 years and have never seen a horse's condition improve as rapidly as Lad's", Ford said.

Kim Zito, wife of Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame Trainer Nick Zito, is a member of the New Vocations board of directors. "It's such a good cause, and I support it 100%."

New Vocations is a non-profit entity founded in 1992 to offer Thoroughbred and Standardbred race horses a safe haven, rehabilitation and continued education through placement in experienced, caring homes. We didn't want to start this thing off with a pice increase, but alas good intentions don't pay the bills. We had to go up a bit on Mineral Ice in the 16 oz size. It's not a big mover for us it won't affect many of our customers.

To even things out a bit, let's talk about another Straight Arrow product - Hoofmaker.

Hoofmaker is our most popular hoof dressing. We recently learned that the manufacturer has decided to discontinue its original packaging option and only offer the product with a pump dispenser.

We decided to buy up a bunch of the product without the pump - but honestly we don't really want it sitting around here all winter. So we have lowered the price to $6.00 until it is gone.

New at Kyhorse.com

A reoccurring problem at our little horse supply business is figuring out how to effectively let people know about web site updates, new items, and sale prices without bombarding them with emails.

Posting this information on the front page our web site is more than a little tedious. We want to keep the site fresh and useful, but do not want to overload the front page with so much information that it all gets lost in the shuffle.

We decided to experiment with a web log or "blog" as the young folk like to say.

We are going to see if one of these things will be useful in our quest. We hope to post such items as already mentioned plus maybe a few customer comments and reviews and possibly a joke or two if the mood hits the webmaster (and if he hears any that aren't "off color").

The real question is if we can update it as often as we would like.
