EQUINE ORGANIZATIONS WORK TOGETHER WITH JOINT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

(Lexington, Ky.) - The Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP), the Kentucky Horse Council (KHC) and the Race for Education have announced a joint effort to promote Kentucky's Equine Scholarships. While each organization will continue to award its own scholarships, they will join forces to promote all equine scholarships in an effort to reach more individuals and show a unified effort to promote Kentucky.

The Kentucky Equine Education Project Scholarship program will provide scholarships to students pursuing a career in the horse industry who demonstrate financial need, academic success and show a commitment to Kentucky's Horse Industry. A committee of the KEEP Board will select the winners.

The Kentucky Horse Council annually awards six scholarships to students who have demonstrated academic success, equine industry involvement and community service. Applications are judged by a panel of both Kentucky Horse Council board members and individuals from the community and from universities.

The Race for Education scholarship program is open only to students 24 years of age or younger. There are currently three main scholarships offered and students may apply for only one type of scholarship.

The Horsemen's Scholarship is available to children of racetrack, backside and horse farm employees. This includes but is not limited to foremen, grooms, hot walkers, assistant trainers, riders, and maintenance and office workers.

The Thoroughbred Scholarship is available to students pursuing an equine-related degree, such as pre-veterinary medicine (equine only), agricultural science with equine focus, racetrack management, or equine business management.

The National Turf Writers Association/Youbet Journalism Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate journalism students at any accredited university in the United States.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the equine industry to once again join forces for the greater good," said Elisabeth Collier, Executive Vice President of Race for Education. "Working together each organization will have a wider audience reach and inform more individuals about each of their scholarship programs.

"While each organization will maintain its scholarship and award those individually, the Race for Education Office will facilitate all the programs. For more information about all these scholarships contact any of the three organization offices: KEEP (866)771-5337 or www.horseswork.com , KHC (800)459-4677 or http://www.kentuckyhorse.org and Race for Education (859) 252-8648 or http://www.racingscholarships.com.

Indiana Ranch Horse Association Clinics

The newly formed Indiana Ranch Horse Association (IRHA) will host two clinics with Bill and Linda Black of Cross 9 Ranch in preparation for the 2007 show season. The clinics will be held at Windmill Junction Farm in Claypool, Indiana, rain or shine. There is a 10-rider limit for both clinics, so preregistration is required. All auditors are welcome.

The first clinic will be a two-day event focusing on colt starting, problem solving, and horsemanship on February 24 and 25, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Blacks will lead participants in starting their own young horses under saddle and in improving their communication and performance with their riding horses.

The cost for the February clinic is $230 to ride all weekend and $125 to ride for one day. Auditors are welcome for $50 for the weekend or $30 per day. Contact Deb Orr at dko6672@earthlink.net or 574-551-6672 to register and for additional information.

Bill and Linda Blacks' own Cross 9 Ranch is located in Spiceland, Indiana. The method of teaching and training they employ-the language of the horse-is universal and effective throughout the spectrum of equestrian sport. Linda's undaunted patience and thoroughness with both horse and rider and Bill's attention to detail attract students from all disciplines to their clinics. The Blacks are American Ranch Horse Association judges and teach clinics and lessons year-round.

The Indiana Ranch Horse Association is a charter organization of the American Ranch Horse Association. Formed at the end of 2006, the club is committed to providing opportunities to enjoy the versatile ranch horse in a friendly environment with competitions, educational opportunities, and social events. For more information about the Indiana Ranch Horse Association, contact president Candice Colbert at indianaranchhorse@earthlink.net or 260-839-0311.

Site Updates Continue

We didn't add much in the way of new things today, but we made a lot of progress in improving the navigation menus in our headstall, reins, and breast collar sections. Once we get that done, we will be ready to bring in some new products for spring in those categories.

We did add some new contest reins today. These reins have a rubber center instead of a rubber covered grip. They have a very soft and unique feel.

Catching Up

We fell a bit behind on both our site maintenance and the news about any updates here over the fall season. We were kind of busy.

But now that spring is approaching and yours truly isn't sitting behind a sewing machine making leather belts for Christmas 12 hours a day, its time to let you know what has been going on.

Some recent updates include...
  • An expanded selection of horse and rider safety gear.
  • Saddle stands (why did this take so long?)
  • Saddle bags (you can stop emailing me now)
  • Some of the TRM Ireland line such as Calphormin and Gut Nutrition Formula. This line is extremely popular in areas of the country where there is a concentrated racehorse population. We aren't sure how it will fly online to the general public because the company does so little advertising and relies so much on "word of mouth".

Currently we are busy updating large parts of our tack section to make the navigation and therefore the shopping easier. Check out our new browband headstall selection.

Happy Customer

I found kyhorse.com while searching for Immusyn to add as a supplement to my horse's feed. I found it elsewhere for $2.50 less. I also found the Repel-X for $5.00 cheaper and the Hooflex hoof dressing for $1.25 less.

By the time I linked to the UPS site through the competitor, figured my own weight of purchases, found my delivery zone (on a chart that was as easy to decipher as an itemized deduction tax form), guessed at what box size my products might ship in and made up my own insurance pricing, I had aged some, lost interest in the purchase entirely and realized I was never getting that 22+ minutes back of my life.

I came back to the kyhorse site which navigates easily, is people friendly, gives me multiple items to choose from and ONE FIXED PRICE FOR SHIPPING.

You won me with your humanity, simplicity, and honesty first. Your "world famous" computer response was an added bonus. At this point I'm so pleased with this transaction that whatever you want to send me to arrive on what ever day it gets here is just fine with me!

Thanks,
K
